Bylane Farm
Sunday, June 28

Here's a new foraging location, a centuries-old farm with lots of weedy areas, woods, and thickets loaded with wild foods. This tour is co-sponsored by the Bedford Audubon Society and Katonah Green. It will begin with an organic lunch prepared by Table Local Market, followed by a brief talk, and the foraging tour.

This is the beginning of the berry season. We'll be looking for fantastic-tasting wild strawberries, apple-almond-blueberry flavored juneberries, and juicy mulberries.

Wild Strawberries

Although smaller than commercial varieties, wild strawberries are way more tasty.

Plenty of summer herbs and greens will be around. Burdock root, lamb's-quarters, purslane, jewelweed, wood sorrel and sheep sorrel, sassafras, and black birch could be growing in great abundance.

Given enough rain beforehand, we could also find the first summer mushooms, species such as chicken mushrooms, green quilt russulas, black-staining polypores, and Berkeley's polypore.
The organic lunch, talk, and walking tour begin at 1 PM, Sunday, June 28, at Bylane Farm, 35 Todd Road, in Katonah, NY. The fee is $40 ($30 without the lunch). Call (914) 763-0474 or
