Native Landscapes
Sunday, April 5

What are the shoots, greens, herbs, and roots that first come as the spring foraging season begins? Proceeding a foraging tour of the Appalachian Trail, I'll bring in dozens of seasonal edibles to display and discuss. You'll see common early-season species such as chickweed, dandelions, hairy bittercress, field garlic, daylilies, garlic mustard, wild carrots, black birch, and sassafras.
Hairy Bittercress

Hairy Bittercress in Flower

Hardly hairy and not at all bitter, this member of the mustard family is one of the best-tasting of wild greens, and it comes up in late winter, when very few other wild vegetables are available.

The free 60-minute presentation, followed by the 2-1/2 hour walking tour, begins at 9:30 AM, Sunday, April 5, at Native Landscapes, 991 Route 22, in Pawling NY.

Call (914) 835-2153 or (845) 855-7050 for further information, or to reserve a place for the subsequent tour.
