Native Landscapes Before "Wildman's" Talk

What are the herbs, greens, herbs, fruits, berries, roots, and mushrooms in season as summer draws to a close? Proceeding a foraging tour of the Appalachian Trail, I'll bring in dozens of seasonal edibles to display and discuss. You'll see and taste common late summer species such as wood sorrel, sheep sorrel, Asiatic dayflower, burdock, elderberries, mullein, jewelweed, garlic mustard seeds, black birch, sassafras, and chicken mushrooms.
chicken mushroom

The flesh looks like chicken and it tastes like chicken. Often the mushroom grows on the far side of a tree, stump, or log where you can't see it because it IS chicken!

The free 60-minute presentation, followed by the 2-1/2 hour walking tour, begins at 10:30 AM, Sunday, August 23, at Native Landscapes, 991 Route 22, in Pawling NY.

Call (914) 835-2153 or (845) 855-7050 for further information, or to reserve a place for the 11:30 AM tour.
